Well, little Eden Sidney made her debut in Virginia this week. She is beautiful and perfect. Just like her brother. Mom is doing fine. Dad is in his last semester of law school and will soon be a full fledged lawyer. They will all be living much closer to us sooner and I will be very happy!
The rest of the past week goes something like this...
My car died on the way to work. It wouldn't shift. There was a burning smell. I knew it could not be the clutch it was just a $25 part that the husband changed out. Then it still wouldn't work. It seems the mechanic that we finally towed it to said the only thing that would make it shift gears again was a $1500 clutch. ouch!
Then the husband's car decided to stop in the middle of no where the next afternoon. It seems it did not want to be upstaged by some foreign model. It got towed to the nearest dealership and they wanted $1000 for a new fuel pump. Good news is that this one has a lifetime warranty on it! It seems to me that if the auto industry really wanted to help America that lifetime warrantied product would have been built into the car as it was put together first time around. Yeah, when pigs fly!
I am hating my job. Yes, the glorious job handed to me on a platter is not so glorious. The $2500 car incentive has me thinking I can't quit just right now, but I don't think it will be for long before I realize my own company needs me to work harder in it and therefore make me master of it instead of someone else's. If by chance you happen into my place of business, even if you absolutely love those frozen chocolate concoctions in a glass, don't buy one. Buy something that doesn't make me get all sticky and gross and feel like I did when I worked at Del Taco when I was 16. It's a chocolate shop, not a malt shop!
It's actually raining in Southern California. Yes, we've had three wonderful days of the stuff. I'm good for possibily another two and then we need to bring in the sun aqain. We dry stater's can only take so much water. Unless of course it is salted and comes in waves of gleaming teal with sunshine and sand.

People watching
A favorite pastime of mine is people watching. I guess it's why I enjoy blogging so much. Not my blogging but other peoples. But mostly I love going places and sitting and watching and eavesdropping and generally enjoying being there with everyone.
Recently we went to lunch, in San Diego, at my favorite bread bakery, Con Pane. I've talked about it on the food blog - Catherine's bakery is THE BEST bread shop in all of San Diego! It is located at Cajon and Rosecrans streets in Point Loma. We were there Saturday. I sat and had the best sandwich - Roast Beef on Kalamata olive bread, with goat cheese Yum! - and watched people come and go.
There was a family of five. 3 boys. One attending UCSD obviously. They were having a sandwich together exchanging stories and chatting. There was a man with a broken leg with a woman. They left via the front door, and I just knew they were driving the Jeep Cherokee for some reason (I had parked in front of it), and it would have been simpler to go out the side door. But he had a broken leg with a cast to the knee, so they must have decided going down the ramp would be simpler than maneuvering through a double door.
You could tell the regulars from the tourists. The tourists always stared in awe at the menu of available sandwiches, wondering which to choose. The regulars, simply stated, a round of Pt Loma Sourdough or the favorite of the day - a Gruyere with sun dried tomatoes or a Walnut Whole Wheat (which had already sold out) or a couple of bagettes. Quickly as can be a sandwich was prepared, delivered, and on to the next customer. I was hoping to get a chocolate brioche, but we were too late!
We finished lunch with me apologizing for the silence while we ate as I hadn't been in public much lately and I was too fascinated by all the people coming and going. The husband responded that I needed to get out more. Maybe I will. We have a day planned for the Grove.

Tim Gunn - His Guide to Style

Bravo TV has really done it right with this show Tim Gunn's Guide to Style. I wasn't sure exactly how it would fare against What not to Wear, but wow! I am really enjoying the "style" of this show.
Tim Gunn spent 23 years at Parson's School of Design honing his skills and interacting with students and industry leaders. He brings his "Guide to Style" book to life on the show. Rather than tell the "styletestant" how poorly their style skills are, he and his partner "accomplice" Veronica Webb carefully guide each to a renewed view of themselves.
I say carefully because they are just that. Not that it doesn't lead to tears, quite the opposite. Tears are shed anytime someone is trying to rediscover themselves. It's hard to realize your personal style is just wonky. However, unlike What Not to Wear's Stacy and Clinton (whom I still think are great) Tim and Veronica actually allow their clients to choose for themselves, all the while carefully guiding them, building their esteem and confidence. I find their methodology much more kind, constructive and a bit more fashion forward to realism for each person. Tim takes into consideration life changes, place in the world, and reality based fashion advice. Sure a woman wants a beautiful caftan style Hawaiian dress for a fancy get together; but if she is going to wear this dress more than once, is a classic caftan really the best choice right now? Remember, we've tossed a whole wardrobe, time to replace it with long-term style musts for this individual, not a one time event type of fashion.
I'm enjoying the show. I love that Veronica calls Tim "professor". They do not always agree on a clothing choice. Tim's reaction to "leggings" was classic. Veronica's reaction to Tim was hilarious. She was shocked and perturbed, yet they still worked to benefit the client. It's fun, and will help you look at yourself in the mirror a bit longer before making a fashion choice.
My favorite quote so far: "You will never be able to control how you are perceived, you can only control how you are presented." I like that.

Random thoughts
I was just checking my gmail and there was an ad off to the side. It's headline was "Date Liberals Now". I ask, why?
Is it that they expire and need a code date to let you know when they've reached the peak of perfection? Or
Is it that they can't find their own dates and need the mercy of an unknown person to pull them from the depths of despair? Or
Will I learn a new set of paradigms that I couldn't without dating them? Or
Are they the new "it" thing and if you're anyone, you'll be dating them, now!
Hah! and I love that the spell check thingy in blogger doesn't recognize gmail as a word. Blogger is owned by google which produces gmail. hmmmmmmmm, think maybe someone ought to update the spell checker!
Just an example of the random questions I ask myself when I read commands randomly put forth.
